God of War Ragnarok fans had been waiting for a long time to hear more about the game, and we finally got a release date announcement yesterday along with the pre-order details.

The fact that the game was not delayed once again and it hit the 2022 release window is something fans were quite happy about. Not to forget, there are not a lot of games coming out towards the end of the year, so this announcement makes the Holiday season quite interesting for PlayStation fans. Like always, there are certain things players are disappointed with, starting off with theabsence of physical discs in the bundles. While the debate for that is still raging, some have started to speculate that the release date might cause some crunch for the developers.

Twitter userFrosk, who is the host of G4TV, posted a tweet yesterday stating that the God of War Ragnarok release date seems rushed in order to target the Holiday season. The user further adds that they hope there is no crunch, and things are actually going in a scheduled fashion. Not often do we see a game’s release date announcement being delayed for so long, so Frosk’s comments aren’t entirely out of context and are quite logical. Not to forget, Santa Monica Studios has a history of crunch, and it has even defended it in the past.

However, Cory Barlog, Creative Director of Santa Monica Studios, was quick to debunk the rumors and stated that they “thought a lot” about the release date before finalizing it. It is further added that the release date was chosen to ensure that it is the best for not only the game but also for the fans and the team. While the game’s release date might appear rushed, the fact that Santa Monica Studios sets such high standards for itself and with Cory Barlog clarifying rumors, God of War Ragnarok looks all set to surpass expectations.
