Notable for his stints in renowned soap operas such asGeneral HospitalandRyan’s Hope, Emmy-nominated star Ron Hale recently passed away at the age of 78. The news of his demise was unwrapped by an obituary from St. George, South Carolina, which revealed that the actor died on August 27, but the reason behind his death is yet to be made public.
Although the actor’s career was mostly defined by his portrayal of Mike Corbin inGeneral Hospital, to Hale, working onscreen never came close to performing on stage.
Ron Hale Always Preferred Theatre Over the Other Two Mediums
While Ron Hale’s decades-long stay in showbiz saw him landing several flicks and TV shows, with his last acting gig being in 2017’sThe Ghost and The Whale, the actor always held theatre close to his heart. Hale, who performed in several plays at the Trustus Theatre, founded by his brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Kay Thigpen, onceconfessed“My first love is the stage”.

As for the other two mediums, while the actor admitted that films are generally more difficult, he noted that doing soap operas can be a lot more time-consuming. He further stressed that movie actors“would find it difficult to do soaps”, as opposed to films, soap operas have a pretty brief time window. Elaborating on it, the actor added that soaps“have an eight-hour period to do a thirty-minute show”, with no room for second chances.
Films are most difficult but acting in soaps is not only time consuming but you have a more grueling schedule, you get 15-20 pages a night to study for the next day. Start by 6:00 A.M. and do a thirty minute show five days a week. In a situation comedy, they have four days to rehearse, tape it twice before an audience and then they can select the best one. Soaps have an eight hour period to do a thirty minute show. And do it right. Movie actors would find it difficult to do soaps – you just don’t have two chances.
Given that the actor appeared in over 900 episodes of the ABC soapRyan’s Hope, 238 episodes ofGeneral Hospital,and an additional 46 episodes of its spin-off, the actor wasn’t wrong with his assessment.

Reflecting on his passing, the renowned soap opera, in which he served as one of its biggest cornerstones, which earned Hale two Daytime Emmy nods for Outstanding Supporting Actor, took to X to share their deep condolences.

His former costar and friend Billy Warlock too came forward to mourn the acclaimed performer’s loss, as on top of being an exceptional talent, Warlockaddedthat Hale was even a better friend.
