While the game is slow to unveil all that it has to offer, there are a number of systems and tasks that you should be aware of. By familiarizing yourself with the items on this list, you will be ready to engage with this entry in the Fire Emblem franchise.

From the Somniel to the battlefield, there are certain things to keep in mind as your journey through Elyos. Whether you’re playing for the story or just enjoying the gameplay, this list will make sure you get the most out of your experience.
10Leave No Stone Unturned
During your time in Elyos, you will have ample opportunity to explore the world. Your allies will want to talk, loot will be lying around, and side activities will present themselves. It’s highly recommended that you poke around in each environment rather than head straight to the next story chapter.
After combat, take the time to chat with your allies and explore the battlefield for useful goods. When in the Somniel, explore every corner and check every door. And on the World Map, look for opportunities toengage in battlesfrom previously explored areas before pushing on.
9Visit the Somniel After Each Story Chapter
After you complete a story chapter, you should visit the Somniel with your team. When in the Somniel, you can engage in activities that bolster your efforts in Elyos. These activities include buying and selling equipment, managing your Emblem rings, and increasing your stats.
Some activities have a limited number of attempts. These attempts will reset once you complete a story chapter. You can participate in other side objectives first before you head back to the Somniel. But once you complete a story chapter, make sure to return to the base camp before you progress the story further.
8Take On Every Challenge
At certain times, Skirmishes and Paralogue story chapters will pop up on your World Map. These are optional side-quests that appear in previously charted areas. You should always complete these challenges as they can offer valuable rewards and can illuminate a character’s backstory.

These missions are Fire Emblem Engage’s version of grinding XP. If you want to ensure your team is strong enough for the next story chapter, you should always be on the lookout for these opportunities. There aren’t a lot of options for combat experience, so these optional battles are well worth your time.
7Equip Your Allies For Battle
Before engaging in a battle, ensure that your units are equipped with the best gear they can handle. Visit the shops in the Somniel and check the Inventory tab to see which equipment is currently available. For the quickest solution, use the Optimize Equipment option just before entering combat.
If your newly acquired Lance is in your convoy, Alfred will be forced to use a less powerful weapon. Before engaging the corrupted, double-check everyone’s equipment and keep it up to date with your newest loot. Having a Vulnerary equipped on units can also come in handy.
6Review the Reference Menu
As your progress through the story, you will create support bonds between allies and Emblems. When these bonds increase, you will need to trigger a conversation between the two characters involved in order to continue progressing in their relationship.
From the Somniel or the World Map, bring up the Menu to reference Support and Bond levels. A yellow dialog bubble indicates that you have a short story cutscene to view that involves two characters that have recently increased their support bond. attempt to view these conversations as soon as you can, and ensure you aren’t missing out on any additional support.
5Don’t Forget To Train
Between battles and story moments, don’t neglect your training. The Somniel has quite a few activities that will boost your stats for thecombat to come. Strength Training has a selection of short minigames that will offer temporary stat boosts when done correctly.
In the North-East corner of the Somniel, you’ll find your allies who love to work out. If you join them in a session of Push-Ups, Sit-Ups, or Squats, you will earn yourself a boost to your Strength, Hit Points, or Dexterity for the next battle.
4Create And Equip Bond Rings
Not to be confused with the powerful Emblem Rings that contain the power to Engage with past heroes, Bond Rings can be created at the Somniel. While these rings are less-powerful than their Emblem counterparts, they are still worth crafting and equipping on your allies.

Every one of your allies should have a Ring equipped. To fill out your roster, you should craft and upgrade Bond Rings in the Ring Chamber. While at lower levels, they only offer meager stat boosts, an S-Rank Bond Ring can be quite powerful.
3Check The Bulletin Board
While you’re in the Somniel, visit the Bulletin Board inside the Café Terrace. As you conquer enemies and surpass certain milestones, the Bulletin Board will keep track of your Achievements and reward you for them. By reviewing your achievements and accepting the rewards, you will be granted Bond Fragments.
Also, on the Bulletin Board is a way to Donate funds to the various counties of Elyos. Your money can be invested into these countries, and in return, they will grant you increased rewards for Skirmishes and Exploration.
2Polish Your Emblem Rings
As you battle through Elyos with your heroes equipped with an Emblem Ring, the Rings will become tarnished. Not to worry, though, a good polishing is all they need, and all of the supplies you need are in the Ring Chamber of the Somniel.
Polishing an Emblem Ring with a certain character will increase their Bond. The unit doesn’t need to have that Emblem Ring equipped — it will grant increased Bond for whoever polishes the Ring. This is a great way to increase Bond levels and ensure your Emblems are in tip-top shape.
1Manage Unit Skills
As you increase your character’s Emblem Bond, they will begin to unlock Inherited Skills. In the Somniel’s Ring Chamber, visit the center console when your units have created a bond with their Emblems. There, you will find a menu that allows you to spend SP to Inherit Skills.
Once unlocked, you will need to visit the Manage Skills Menu and equip the Skill. Inheriting a skill isn’t enough, you will have to take this extra step before the unit takes advantage of their new Skill. Pick and choose your skills wisely, as your SP is very limited, as is your number of Skill slots.
