How To Change Your Party
To change out your party, go to the"Combat Settings" option in the main menu, which is the third option from the top.This menu will list all your party members, and pressing square will open up the party layouts menu. This will open up the party selection menu, where thethree party layouts can be edited.By selectingR1 and L1, you can cycle between the three layoutsand decide who will be accompanyingCloud in each party, as he is a set party member.
When outside of combat, pressing"X" will open up the Commands menu.PressingR1 or L1 will change to different party layoutsdetermined in the party selection menu. This makes it easy to jump between different party members that havemore HP/MPor better counter a specific enemy.

When in the Party Selection Menu, pressingtriangle on adifferent party memberwill make them the “Leader”.This only really changes who the player will start out controlling when a battle begins, asCloud does the rest of free roaming in the open world.There will be a few exceptions to this throughout the main story, but the majority of the game will have players controlling Cloud almost always outside of combat. When another character is the party leader, they will quickly jump into battle next to Cloud as theplayer switches over to them, with no delay to a first strike in combat.
