It has only been a few months since the release of Bethesda’s space-faring adventure gameStarfield, and even though it was a major hit when it was released, there are still a few features that gamers believe were obvious additions that were sadly ignored.

Starfield players point out that Bethesda missed out on a major opportunity with its melee weapons.

One of these features is a rather obvious sci-fi weapon that is well-known in theStar Warsuniverse, and that is theLightsaber. For obvious reasons, Bethesda will have chosen to avoid including this as it would risk a copyright lawsuit, but many gamers still feel this was a missed opportunity.

Why Are Gamers Saying That Starfield Should Have Included This Obvious Sci-Fi Weapon?

When it comes to a Bethesda game, players are always trying out different builds and mechanics that allow them to play the game differently each time they create a character. The primary example of this isSkyrimand its numerous builds that players can choose from, whether they are a stealth player, a melee-based character, all about magic, or using a bow and arrow for ranged combat.

SinceSkyrimis set in a fantasy setting, it makes sense that there are a lot more options for players to choose from in regard to combat. Whereas inStarfield, players will only have a limited amount of options to choose from in terms of combat, whether that be using a gun or a melee-based weapon.

Unfortunately, there aren’t many more options withinStarfield, as some gamers were hoping for mech suits and sci-fi weaponry; sadly, this didn’t appear within the game, and gamers had to suffer with just a standard array of weaponry.

What makes the combat less effective is the fact that the melee combat in the game is sorely lacking, as players are unable to sprint and attack, and there are only two attacks you can use when in melee combat, which leads to a rather boring experience.

For those who have played other games from Bethesda, we know that they aren’t shy about using melee combat in plenty of different ways, whether that be to enhance the stealth experience or just on its own, but withinStarfield, players feel this is sadly an ignored part of the game.

How Have Gamers Redeemed This Missing Feature Within Starfield, and Will It Ever Officially Make an Appearance?

At the moment, there are some melee weapons withinStarfield, but sadly, they are rather lackluster, as many members of the gaming community feel that they should have been able to mod their melee weapons at the workbench just like any other weapons.

This feels like an incredibly missed opportunity and a lack of foresight from Bethesda, as many of its older games include a lot of wacky and unique melee weapons, even in games focused on firearms, just like theFalloutseries, which includes some rather weird melee weapons that players can enjoy from time to time.

However, gamers felt that the most obvious melee weapon that should have been included was the laser sword, also known as the Lightsaber fromStar Wars. Many gamers felt this weapon was so vital to the game that they have already created mods to fill this gap inStarfieldso that anyone who is playing on PC will be able to acquire these special weapons.

Sadly, this doesn’t improve the melee combat that is used withinStarfield, but a small step forward is still a step taken in the long run. At the moment, Bethesda has shown no plans to bring in such a weapon intoStarfield, but with enough support, it is highly possible that it could bring in its own variant of a Lightsaber to allow gamers to live out theirStar Warsfantasies.
