In just under two weeks, Google Stadiawill be coming out. As such, this new cloud-based platform is on many game developers' minds. While the content available on the platform at launch is mostly western-oriented, some interesting exceptions include Bandai Namco Entertainment’sDragon Ball Xenoverse2 and Koei Tecmo’sAttack on Titan 2: Final Battle. Games like those will be the earliest indicators of how Japanese and anime-based titles do on the platform, and if they prove to be successful Koei Tecmo may consider bringing projects likeFairy Tailto Google Stadia, according to Producer Keisuke Kikuchi.
During a recent interview with DualShockers, theFairy TailProducer said that he’s “very interested in Stadia,” though he “can’t really make any speculations without actually working on it.” Kikuchi then elaborated on what exactly will entice Fairy Tail publisher Koei Tecmo to bring more games to the fledgling, cloud-based platform. “From Koei Tecmo,Attack on Titan 2: Final Battlewill be one of the launch titles, so if it performs well and if we observe that anime titles are indeed popular on Stadia, I might make some plans forFairyTailas well.”
Keisuke Kikuchi seems to have a similar mindset to most Japanese game developers regarding Google Stadia: they are interested but too many unknowns are present at this point. Inti Creates CEO Takuya Aizutold DualShockers at E3that “once we are able to experience what that’s like and test it out and if we find that games with very fast response time like the kind of games we have run flawlessly on something like Stadia, that will definitely give us something to think about going forward for sure.” Meanwhile,Contra: Rogue CorpsExecutive ProducerNobuya Nakazato explained that"it’s always welcomed to have more and more way, more and more channels, to reach players. We are excited to see Google’s new platform appearing," though Konami was not ready to share any specific plans.
It remains to be seen just how popular Google Stadia will be, both in the United States and abroad, but if more niche games likeAttack on Titan 2: Final Battledo find a home on the platform it will be exciting to get new games likeFairy Tailon Google Stadia.
