Players will meet Isaac for the first time whileexploring Bakbattahl. Buying any item from the Apothecary will trigger a cutscene with him where he will tell you about a curious magical book, ‘On the Transference of Souls 1’ he’s been reading that might just be what he needs to turn the fortunes of his family around. But first, he needs your help.

How To Find A Ripened Quince
Isaac will tell the Arisen that he’s in need of a ‘Ripened Quince’, a local fruit that only grows in Battahl and helps with eyesight. Isaac has not been able to read the book because his eyes are getting weaker and weaker.
You canfind a Quince growing on bushes in the deserts of Battahl. However, from our testing, it’s much quicker to kill any enemy you see and loot their bodies to get a Ripened Quince directly.Goblins and harpies have a high chance of dropping a Quincewhen defeated. A regularQuince can be converted to a Ripened Quince bywaiting a day. Don’t wait too long, though, as it will turn into a Rotten Quince if you forget to hand it to Isaac on time.
How To Find ‘On The Transference Of Souls 2’
After giving Isaac the Quince, wait a couple of days and return to him, and he’ll tell you that he’s finished reading the book and he’s found out that the book is, in fact, the first book in a two-part series. Your next task is tofind ‘On the Transference of Souls 2’ and bring it to himso he can complete the spell he’s working on.
Isaac’s wife and daughter, Esmerelda and Raelia, will stop you as you’re leaving the area and ask that you don’t give him the real bookfor fear of causing further damage to his eyes. They both believe that messing with the books is a bad idea.
‘On the Transference of Souls 2’ can be bought for2000 Goldfrom Ibrahim’s Scrap Store inCheckpoint Rest Town.Take the Oxcartfrom Bakbattahl to the border, and you’ll be able to get the book in no time.
While you’re here though, it ishighly advised you ask Ibrahim to make you aforgery of the book. It’ll cost you a2400 Goldto get a forgery made but it is a requirement if you want to get the ‘Good’ ending to Short-Sighted Ambition. Wait another day to give Ibrahim time to make the forgery and collect it. It will be titled ‘On the Transit of Souls 2’.
Should You Give Isaac The Real Book Or The Forgery
Return to Bakbattahl via Oxcart (or Portcrystal) and talk to Isaac. Now, you’ll be presented with the option of either giving him the real book ‘On the Transference of Souls 2’ or the fake book ‘On the Transit of Souls 2’.Giving the real book will give you the ‘bad’ ending, and giving him the fake book will give you the ‘good’ ending. Here is how it works.
Good Ending
If yougive Isaac the fake book ‘On the Transit of Souls 2’, he’ll lead you back to his apartment on the back of the Apothecary in front of his wife and daughter. Try to cast the spell in the second book and fail. He’ll immediately give up on changing his fortune and ask his family to forgive him for this lapse in judgment.
You’ll be rewarded with the following:
Combining On the Transference of Souls 1 & 2 (real versions) will give you ‘On the Transference of Souls’which is aone-time use tomethat can be used to cast theCelestial Peaenspell. This is only possible if you get the good ending and buy the first book from Isaac’s wares afterward.
If yougive Isaac the real book ‘On the Transference of Souls 2’, he’ll lead you back to his apartment in front of his family and try to cast the spells in the books. It will work, in a way, and turn his wife and daughter to sand, killing them instantly. Isaac, however, will refuse to accept this reality and leave in search of them, convinced they’ve only run away. You’ll get the following rewards:
If you get the bad ending, Isaac will leave his post as the local Apothecary. To fill in, you can recruit Hugo to replace him at the shop after completing ‘Off the Pilfered Path’ and offering him this job.
