One of the key factors behind Toriyama’sDragon Balllegacy is its incredible storytelling and memorable characters, which have left a lasting impact on generations of fans, becoming a global sensation.

Still, over time, many fans have felt the female characters inDragon Ballare sidelined, with others claiming they lack depth. However, that’s not entirely true, as Toriyama crafted one iconic female character who became the face of the series, surpassing even Bulma and Chi-Chi.

The Most iconic female character inDragon BallSaga

Dragon Ballhas always been a very male-driven series and there’s nothing wrong with it embracing this demographic. However, that doesn’t meanToriyama isn’t quite skilledat creating compelling and powerful female characters.

The pool of female fighters inDragon Ballis unexpectedly diverse. From humans and androids to Saiyans and gods, there are many female warriors in the series who could easily rival Goku and Vegeta.

Among them is Android 18, whose unforgettable debut inDBZas a villain not only captivated fans but also marked her as the first female character to seriously challenge Goku and Vegeta.

Android 18 initially appeared as a dastardly antagonist that was set on destroying the entire world. She left a mark by defeating Super Saiyan Vegeta and Trunks, becoming one of the Z Fighters’ toughest foes.

She’s been in the background for most of the series but can still hold her own in battle when the situation calls for it. That being said, her responsibilities as a mother have reduced her fighting role in the series even more.

Since her time as a villain, Android 18 has become one of the Z Fighters’ most reliable members, helping them battle numerous threats throughoutDragon Ball Z‘s ‘Buu Saga’ andDragon Ball Super.

While it’s true that female representation inDragon Ballhas been pretty lacking (a problem that plagues most mainstream anime), there’s no denying thatSuperhas been a step in the right direction.

Bulma ranked as the worst parent in theDBSeries

Besides the criticism of her hyper-s*xualized character, Toriyama also showcased Bulma’s worst parenting approach with the upbringing of Trunks.

Despite holding scientific expertise and knowledge, Bulma never encourages Trunks to follow in her footsteps or pursue a studious path.

On the other hand, her friend and Goku’s wife,Chi-Chi, always pushed herkids to be studious, especially Gohan, so they did not end up like Goku and her.

Chi-Chi even trained Goten in martial arts, whereas Bulma was more busy with her own self, rather than nurturing Trunks.

Also, back in the Android Saga, Bulma showed the worst motherly instincts and brought her newborn baby onto the battlefield.

A ‘Hell’s Paradise’ Live-Action Adaptation Could Be a Bigger Disaster than ‘Dragon Ball: Evolution’

In comparison to Bulma,Vegeta emerges as a better parent. Not to mention,Dragon Ball Superfans witnessed Vegeta’s adoring nature and selfless love for his newborn daughter, Bulla.

Just after Bulla’s birth, Vegeta develops a strong attachment to her and becomes very protective of her well-being.

He even joins the Tournament of Power to save his family from annihilation. Vegeta is actually a better parent than fans often realize, especially since Bulma’s motherly instincts were practically nonexistent.

Dragon Ballis available for streaming on Crunchyroll.
