Ex-Days GoneCreative Director, John Garvin, went on a tirade on X against Bend Studios for allowing the game’s protagonist, Deacon St. John, to be in anAstro Botpromotion.
Sorry Bloodborne Fans, Astro Bot Isn’t Teasing Anything New For The Forgotten IP
Astro Bot’s creative director says “there’s no secret meaning” behind the game’s Bloodborne costume and references.
Astro Bot,Sony’s latest platformer developed by TeamAsobi, features an array of iconicPlayStationcharacters; Deacon is but one among the likes ofGod of War’s Kratos andUncharted’s Nathan Drake, among many others.

Garvin’s X post replied to Bend Studio’s congratulating TeamAsobi onAstro Bot’s release. His comments were only about theDays Goneprotagonist’s use in promotional material, not about his inclusion in the game— although he could simply be unaware of that.
The ex-creative director then discussed his comments with multiple X users, who thought they were “salty” and “uncalled for.”

Many pointed out that Deacon’s inclusion is merely an homage toDays Gone, as it was thePS4’s 13th best-selling game. Many fans of the zombie game tagged Sony under Bend Studio’s post, asking for a sequel.
These positive replies were lost on Garvin, who ended his keyboard battle with “I’m busy creating more stuff” and ‘I’m done giving you air."

Conversely, Kevin McAllister, aDays Gonedev whohabituallycounteredGarvin’s posts, thanked and congratulated TeamAsobion their game’s release.
Garvin was fired from Bend Studios due to his “disruptive personality.” His redundancy shocked no one.

Days Gonehas developed a cult following despite garnering a lukewarm reception upon release.
Its cliffhanger ending, which teased an evolved and intelligent “zombie” strain, left many fans wanting a sequel. Yet, all we’ve had in terms of news regarding a sequel is baseless teases andcontradictory statements.

Sony is Working on a Days Gone Movie
Sony is pushing ahead with a Days Gone movie but without its leading man
Despite the game’s director, James Ross, confirming that a sequel was out of the questionin May, Garvin told a fanin June to “never say never.” He also said that he had completed an outline andexpanded game map.
Sony isn’t keen on the game, and Garvin’s attitude towards gamers and the game itself hasn’t helped. He’s gone on record claiming that “woke reviewers,” technical issues, and - get this -gamers not buying the game at full price all harmed the game.
“Don’t complain if there’s no sequel if you didn’t buy it full price”
His “discounted gamesdon’t support developers directly” argument, especially and expectedly, did not mesh well with gamers, who quickly pointed out its tone-deafness.
Despite being eager for a sequel, Garvin did not acknowledge all the fans who tagged Sony in the original post and simply kept complaining.
At this point, even if, against all odds, some sequel is greenlit, Garvin is probably Bend Studio’s last possible choice.
