Prior to donning his own suit for Superman, like every other actor that competed for the part of Man of Steel, David Corenswet had to audition in a previous Superman suit. But like Henry Cavill, who had problems fitting in the old Superman suit for his screen test before getting a tailor-made version forMan of Steel, Corenswet seemed to have a similar issue.

Taking to Threads, James Gunn went into detail about thePearlStar’s screentest for the beacon of hope in the new DCU, revealing that Corenswet had a hard time fitting in the previous suit.

David Corenswet’s Height Caused Him a Hard Time During His Superman Screen Test
Presuming the previous suit here is referring toHenry Cavill‘s outfit fromMan of Steel. It‘s reasonable to see whyDavid Corenswethad a hard time fitting in the tights following his height. Considering Cavill stands at 6.1 while Corenswet is three inches taller thanThe WitcherStar, it’s obvious to see why the problem occurred during the screen test. Gunn explained (viaThreads),
“Yes everyone who screen tested was screen tested in the previous suit (although David had a hard time fitting as he’s so tall!)”

While his height possibly halted his trial in Cavill’s suit, it’s quite likely Corenswet ended up auditioning in Christopher Reeve’s iconic tights. Considering Reeve was almost the same height as Gunn’s new Superman, having Corenswet screen test in Superman’s iconic suit does seem the most plausible route they ended up going for. But it’s not only this version of Clark Kent, who had issues testing in an older suit, as his predecessor was nervous about his physique during his screen test for Superman.

Henry Cavill Was Nervous Donning the Superman Suit for the First Time
While Cavill was excited to don the Superman outfit for the first time, there was an equal sense of nervousness for the actor. Considering it was 2010 and Cavill was still far from attaining the incredible stature he reached forMan of Steel, which debuted in 2013, the Argylle Star felt he might be too fat to wear the suit. He toldTHR:
“If I’m going to be honest, what was going through my mind was, ‘Lord, I’m too fat to be wearing this suit right now’. And also, ‘I can’t believe I’m actually doing this’ — there was a sense of excitement, achievement and nervousness.”

Contrary to Cavill’s initial doubts, he ended up nailing the look for Superman, and with Corenswet adding muscles for the part, it’s reasonable to assume it’ll be a similar case for his version.
Superman: Legacywill debut on 14 June 2025.
