The Gith From Baldur’s Gate 3 Are Turning Into Aberrations In D&D
Much like howKobolds switched to Dragonsin the new Monster Manual, shifting types in this way changes how certain spells and abilities work on them. This means popular spells like Charm Person, Calm Emotions, Dominate Person, and Hold Person no longer work on them.
While the new version of the Gith isn’t playable yet, only appearing in the2025 Monster Manual(launching onFebruary 18, 2025,)it will almost certainly appear in a future book with the Aberration type, as the existing species from the pre-2024 are due an overhaul.

D&D 10 Best Subclasses For New Players
These are the best subclasses for new players from Dungeons & Dragons' 2024 Player’s Handbook.
This technically isn’t the first time that Gith have changed in this way, as the versions that appeared as monsters in Morte’s Planar Parade from the Planescape set were also Aberrations. However, their original iterations from the 2014 Monster Manual and the playable version in Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse were Humanoids.

It’s fitting that the Gith have shifted to Aberrations, considering their connection to themonstrous Illithidsand their flesh-crafting experiments. The question now is when players will get the chance to use one of these more powerful Githyanki or Githzerai in a campaign.
