The ending of the anime perfectly concluded the story, and the sequel was always a contentious discussion among fans. With that, this prequel proves to be a great addition to the series and the key to the anime’s potential continuation. Before we explore that possibility, here’s everything we know so far about the prequel manga.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunnersprequel already released and we had no idea!

The prequel manga is titled ‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Madness’ and the first chapter was released on December 13th, 2024. Written and illustrated by Bartosz Sztybor and Asano, the manga is being published by Kadokawa. Sztybor also shared his excitement about the manga release on X.

It REALLY is a day full of great news!I’m proud to announce that@edgerunnerswill have a prequel in manga format and I’m writing it! If you want to know a thing or two about Rebecca and Pilar before they joined Maine’s crew, this manga is for you. It’s a dream come true!!https://t.co/xUC90mkfm8

The print release has also been confirmed in various languages including French, Japanese, Italian, Spanish, Polish, Chinese, and German. Fans are now eagerly waiting for the release date announcement for the official English translation. The Japanese version can be read on the Comic Alive+ Platform. The next chapter of the manga is scheduled for a January release, and the complete volume will also be released on an unspecified date next year.

The manga revolves around the fan-favorite sibling duo Rebecca and Pilar. While Rebecca’s screen time was comparatively better in the anime, Pilar never got his due attention. The siblings led a rough life and their journey was briefly explored in the anime series, the prequel manga will further delve into their experiences.

This is the perfect extension ofCyberpunk: Edgerunners

Cyberpunk: Edgerunnersenjoys massive popularity among fans. The dedicated fanbase has been eagerly waiting for a potential sequel of the series. The original anime ended on a satisfying note, andtampering with that near-perfect conclusionmight ruin the fan experience instead of enhancing it. This prequel is the perfect extension to the storyline without stretching it out unnecessarily.

It expands the universe by fleshing out the character arcs and events we’re already familiar with. The best part about this prequel is that it’s centered around Rebecca and Pilar. They both deserve their own story that delves into their tragic past and how their lives asEdgerunnerstranspired. Fans of the series probably didn’t expect this sudden development, as it takes them by surprise.

However, it’s a welcomed development nonetheless. While it’s all but confirmed that we won’t be getting a sequel anime anytime soon, the prequel could also give enough source material for a new anime series. The manga has just started, and if it gets adapted into an anime will depend on its popularity and performance.Given how highly regarded the anime series isamong fans, the manga being a great success doesn’t feel far out of reach.
