In atrailerreleased today, US-based publisher Whitethorn Games hasrevealedside-scrolling action kitchen adventureMagical Delicacyfor Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox Game Pass, and PC via Steam. The first title from German indie developerSkaule, Magical Delicacy is slated to release on all announced platforms next year.
Billed on theofficial Steam pageas “a wholesome pixel art platformer”, Magical Delicacy stirs the classicMetroidvaniagenre into a vibrant, “witchy” world where the magic and the mundane happily cohabit. Gameplay whisks from cooking simulation to traditional side-scrolling action and back again, all swirled in with a heaped tablespoon of magic, as per the promises of the title.
In Magical Delicacy, players will put on the wide-brimmed conical hat of protagonist Flora, a young witch with dreams of mastering her magical craft. At the beginning of the game, Flora sets out for the far, far away harbor town of Grat, a place populated by adventurers, thrumming with economy, and home to fellow witches and magi, each of which has plenty to teach Flora. Life in Grat is an ever-bubbling cauldron, and it isn’t long before Flora, ambitious and eager, settles in and sets up shop — in every sense of the term.
As Flora, players will operate a small kitchen shop where numerous ingredients can be chopped, baked, roasted, or stewed into a never-ending buffet of magical concoctions. To create dishes, potions, and desserts, players can either follow any of the game’s pre-scripted recipes, or express themselves by combining ingredients freely and concocting at will.

The whimsical delicacies produced in Flora’s kitchen can then be sold to customers directly, or delivered to friends by Flora herself. Delivery in Magical Delicacy is when the game’s Metroidvania spices really kick in: as Flora, players will jump, run, and action-platform their way through Grat’s side-scrolling sprawl of areas to bestow upon patrons their orders from her kitchen. As Flora’s witchcraft talents develop and grow, players will be able to upgrade her traversal abilities and gradually unlock access to different routes and new areas.
Magical Delicacy is currently available to wishlist on Steam. At launch, the game will support English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, and Japanese languages, as well as a variety of accessibility options across all platforms.
