Othello, one of the greatest tragedy tales by William Shakespeare, is all set to return to the stages once again through Broadway. Set in Venice and Cyprus, it is widely regarded among the mastermind author’s major tragedies as it brings about the titular Moorish military commander’s story as he is manipulated by his ensign, Iago, into suspecting his wife Desdemona of infidelity.

Of course, as famous as it is, there have been innumerable other iterations of this play over the years. Multiple different star-studded actors have joined the cast of the same, and given epic performances that they continue to be renowned for. And now that Broadway is reviving the saga, a cast of critically applauded actors has once again united to give the performance of a lifetime.

This time around, some of the major names connected to the cast are Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal, among others. Recently, the producer of this revived tale has announced the new talented actors who would soon be joining the lore and revealed the respective characters they would be embodying, adding even more star power to the already strong cast.

One of the best actors in all of Hollywood’s entertainment industry,The Equalizerstar has been confirmed byDeadlineto be playing the lead role of Othello in the upcoming Broadway revival plays of the titular saga. And while his shining Oscar wins are one to prove his worthiness as an actor, the 69-year-old is no stranger to stage productions either.

Per theNew York Theatre Guide, Washington made his Broadway debut back in 1988 with his epic portrayal of Sylvester Williams in the Broadway premiere ofCheckmates.

As much asJake Gyllenhaalis loved for his onscreen performances like inDonnie DarkoandBrokeback Mountain, he is soon to make his splash and steal hearts in the forthcoming Broadway stage production as well. Per Deadline, he has been cast to bring to life Iago, the ambitious lieutenant and masterful manipulator.

Over the years, the actor hasn’t disappointed audiences in his stage performances either. While he made his off-Broadway debut in the 2012 playIf There Is I Haven’t Found It Yet, he has since starred inConstellations(2015),Sunday in the Park with George(2017), andSea Wall/A Life(2019), among others (perPlaybill). Per the official @othellobway handle on Instagram,Andrew Burnap, 33, will be debuting in theOthellorevival play as Cassio, the young, handsome, and well-educated lieutenant in the titular Moorish military commander’s Venetian forces. Previously, Burnap has been credited with his outstanding performances as Toby Darling in the Matthew Lopez playThe Inheritanceand King Arthur in the Broadway revival ofCamelot, among others (viaIBDB).

4Anthony Michael Lopez

Anthony Michael Lopez is yet another casting confirmed for the upcoming Broadway revival play.The Valetstar will reportedly be playing Roderigo, the foolish and gullible yet wealthy Venetian whose love for Desdemona makes him vulnerable and gets him manipulated by Iago into helping him plot against Othello. TheLincoln Center Theatercredits Lopez’ notable theatre works asCamelot,Our Town, andLight Shining in Buckinghamshire.

5Daniel Pearce

@othellobwayconfirms that Daniel Pearce will be bringing Brabantio, the wealthy Venetian senator who is also Desdemona’s father, to life in the Broadway revival. While his film and TV credits hold the likes ofSalt,Godzilla, andThe Good Fight, among others, he has been credited with stage performances inMachinaland 12 productions with the Public Theater, with the most recent being Polonius in Kenny Leon’sHamletin Central Park.

6Kimber Elayne Sprawl

Kimber Elayne Sprawl will also be joining the upcoming stage production as Emilia, the sharp-eyed and self-aware wife of Iago and a maidservant to Othello’s wife, Desdemona. Sprawl holds some notable Broadway credits to her name, includingWicked(20th Anniversary Cast),A Bronx Tale,Home, andBeautiful: The Carole King Musical, per Deadline.

7Molly Osbourne

Last but none the least, Molly Osborne will be seen bringing the most tragic wife of the titular character, Desdemona, to life in this Shakespeare tragedy revival. So far, she is credited with her performances in the West End productions ofThe Sex Party,Indecent, andFiddler on the Roof, and this upcoming Broadway production is expected to add further stars to her resume.

The Directing and Creative Team for BroadwayOthello

While these seven are the current confirmed lead actors set to perform in the Broadway revival ofOthelloby producer Brian Anthony Moreland, the complete casting is yet to be announced. Meanwhile, Kenny Leon is confirmed to be taming the much-awaited play.

The creative team currently onboard for this production includes Derek McLane for scenic design, Dede Ayite for costume design, Natasha Katz for lighting design, Justin Ellington for sound design, Mia Neal for hair and wig design, and Claire Warden as the intimacy director.

The production is confirmed to be set for 2 hours and 35 minutes, including intermission, and the previews will begin on Monday, July 23, 2025, at Broadway’s Barrymore Theatre. The opening night will be on Sunday, March 23, and the limited 15-week engagement will run through Sunday, June 8.
