The only caveat is the long cooldown and the duration. Another way to stun the enemy is by landing a heavy attack or a landing a 5-step light attack combo.
In the early stage of the game, the most essential to manage is your stamina bar and the cooldown of the various skills. Remember to always be at a safe distance and take your time during the fight (no time limit).
