Ubisoft Montpellier helms the development process of Beyond Good And Evil 2, which has been in the development process for more than a decade. Even thoughUbisoftconfirmed that the game isstill in active development, the myriad of cancelations and the turmoil in the company do not spell good things about the long-awaited sequel’s future.

And the recent events thinned the chances of finally seeing Beyond Good and Evil 2 even more, as the studio now faces a labor investigation by the government authorities. “Given the length of the development cycle with Beyond Good and Evil 2, the Montpellier development team is undergoing well-being assessments,” said the Ubisoft spokesperson to Kotaku.

The studio is not only troubled with the labor investigation, though. On top of the ongoing government scrutiny, Ubisoft Montpellier’s managing director Guillaume Carmona left the studio earlier this week. According to the report, the studio staff was told that their managing director, who had joined the ranks of Ubisoft more than 18 years ago, had left the company. Both Ubisoft nor Carmona have not states a reason for the departure.

With the studio head gone and the employees under “well-being assignments,” things are not looking great for the studio. It has been more than four years since the title’s last appearance, which was a gameplay video on Ubisoft North America’s YouTube channel. The sequel hasn’t had another showcase other than the four-minute-long gameplay video showing the augments, vehicles, and the co-op feature of the game.

After a plethora of delays, the creative and technical struggles in development, and finally a labor inspection, the chances of seeing Beyond Good and Evil 2 emerge from its 15-year slumber have become extremely thin. Even though Ubisoft stated that the development process was still well underway, the French game giant canceled more than six games last year.

It also delayedSkull and Bones, which is another troubled title in the development hell, for the sixth time. Even though the current situation in the studios seems abysmal, the company continues to reaffirm fans often, announcing thatthree more Assassin’s Creed gamesare in the works.
