The English dubbed version ofBerserkis often praised for its apt casting. From Guts to Griffith, every character has received fair treatment at the hands of their voice cast. Kevin T. Collins is the voice actor of Griffith, who has also been cast in various other major roles in the anime industry.
In an interview, the voice actor opened up about his career as well as his humble beginnings. And you will never be able to guess what his first voice-acting gig was.
Griffith’s Voice Actor was Casted in an Erotica
Inan interview with YouTuber Chris Mayek, Kevin T. Collins had an insightful conversation about his other roles. During the talk, Mayek asked Collins about his very first role, which tempted the voice actor to reveal his dark past.
It was one of the dirty anime. It was called Bride of Darkness and turned into a tentacled creature with…pen**es. That was my first one.
Bride of Darknessis an OAV (original animation video) released in 2002. Collins starred as Yoichiro, an antagonist who brings the plague of lasciviousness to the household of his fiancee. In the story, Sanshiro, a servant’s child, loves the daughter of his master, Momoyo. However, Momoyo’s fiancee, Yoichiro, is supposed to return from England before he takes her there forever.

But when Yoichiro returns, he brings a cause of lust and sadism to the entire household. But this lust is nowhere near natural and holds the taint of evil. By the time Sanshiro finds out, death might take possession of the people, and a demon’s awakening is due.

The role of Yoichiro was, in a way, prophetic for Kevin T. Collins. It foreshadowed the much larger role that he would receive in his life, that is,Berserk‘s Griffith. Like Yoichiro, Griffith also commits crimes out of his lust and even impulsively seduces Princess Charlotte,which gets him incriminated.

Yoichiro is introduced as a dutiful fiance of Momoyo, who will take her to England. Griffith, at first, is the leader of the Band of Falcons, who has the unwavering respect and loyalty of his followers. Yoichiro turns out to be demonic, just like Guts, who later becomes Femoto, a demonic evolution of himself who is free from human inhibitions.
Just as Yoichiro brought upon the curse of unnatural lust over Momoyo’s household, Griffith also commits sexual crimes. The biggest of which is the brutal sexual assault of Casca. InBride of Darkness, Sanshiro helplessly watches the demonic Yoichiro take over his love,just like Guts, who was forced to watchGriffith force himself on Casca.
