Unless you’ve been living under a rock since last summer (no shame though, sometimes the thought of being under a rock sounds pretty nice), then you will know what an impactBaldur’s Gate 3has had on RPG lovers across the world. Packed to the rafters with unique and compelling companions, incredible dialogue and exciting quests, BG3 still has secrets up its sleeve and new aspects yet to be discovered, especially so as Larian Studios constantlyprovide updatesto the game.
If one of your favorite companions happens to be Halsin, players are theorizing a hot and interesting topic about whether his true identity has actually been masked and the skilled druid has been hiding who he really is this whole time, right under our noses.

Gnomes Just Have The Worst Luck In Baldur’s Gate 3
Larian Studios has it out for Gnomekind.
Just when you think you know someone, the rug gets swept from under your feet, right? Well, it seems that it’s not just a situation that happens in the real world and may also seep into the fantasy world of Baldur’s Gate 3 too. On Reddit, players have come up with wild theoriesthat our man Halsin might not be who we think he is after all and, in fact, his true identity could be that he’s a bear that turns into a human, rather than the other way around.
Some of the evidence given is plausible (pawsible?), which includes Halsin’s physique and how wood elves aren’t usually so hefty, they are naturally quite slender, and something that he himself freely admits. He is also devoted to the nature spirit Thaniel that Halsin needs to rescue, and who strangely happens to be able to transform into a humanoid form. There’s also a discussion surrounding Halsin’s love of honey, which of course could be the biggest give away as bears love honey!

The H in Halsin is actually silent and is pronounced “ursine”. Reddit usersth128remarks.
Maybe the most interesting theory that players are discussing is that they believe that Halsin could actually be ‘Sir Bearington’ and that Larian Studios has thrown in a humorous plot twist regarding the oldD&D greentext memeabout a character who is a bear but acts and looks like a human.

To add more fuel to this bloody brilliant and raging fire, as you know, Larian Studios developedDivinity: Original Sinand in the game there is a character called Arhu who appears as a white cat but, in actuality, heisa feline who learned how to turn himself into a human. Priceless! Could we be seeing the same thing in Baldur’s Gate 3 and the studio is just waiting for someone to discover it? For now, the Halsin theory is just that, and a real fun one, but you never know with Larian as they love to add humor and mystery to many of their games. Maybe we should watch this space…
