Obsidian Entertainment’s upcoming RPG,Avowed, will, much like most AAA console games these days, feature various performance modes that will cater to player preferences.

Given the weaker horsepower of the Xbox Series S, the various performance modes are only available on Xbox Series X

Avowed Will Be Able To Run At 60ffps On Xbox Series X

Speaking withLast Man Media, Avowed game director Carrie Patel shared that Avowed will have three performance mode settings on Xbox Series X.

There’s “Quality” that will feature the most graphical fidelity but at the cost of limiting the game to 30 frames-per-second (fps), and “Balanced” which will offer the best of both worlds in terms of visuals and frame rate, as players can expect it to cap out at 40dps on 120hz displays. Finally, there’s also “Performance” mode, which will output at a smooth 60fps.

Patel states, “We’re going to have Performance mode and Balanced mode, which is sort of in between Quality and Performance for players who have 120h TVs.”

Whenever I have the option to choose, I always choose the frame rate. Nothing beats playing a game at a smooth frame rate, though it’s a personal preference.

Avowed Will Have A Narrative Approach Similar To Pillars Of Eternity, Says Game Director

Pillars game director Josh Sawyer has also been involved in the development process.

If you’re not familiar with Avowed, it’s an action-RPG, and set in the same world as Pillars of Eternity. Its game description reads, “Avowed is a first-person fantasy RPG set in the world of Eora, where your choices carve a path through war, intrigue, and ancient mysteries. Navigate a land in turmoil, forge powerful alliances or deadly rivalries, and wield magic and steel to shape the fate of the Living Lands—and your own destiny.”

Same as with any action-RPG nowadays, expect side quests in the game, thoughObisidian promises there are no “copy/paste experiences"between the main quest and side missions.

Avowed will be released on July 04, 2025, on the PC and Xbox Series X|S and will be available on Game Pass on day one.
