Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the popular animated showAvatar: The Last Airbenderreleased the official trailer of the series. The series follows the story of Aang, the Avatar who can control all four elements of earth, wind, fire, and water. The show was first announced in 2018 and after multiple production delays, will finally be out on Netflix on February 22.
The trailer of the series was received well by fans who appreciated its faithfulness for the source material. Many lauded the casting, calling out the similarities between the animated characters and the live-action actors. The depiction of element-bending was also lauded by fans, who were excited to see the tease of Aang reaching his true potential as an Avatar.

After six years in production, the popular animated showAvatar: The Last Airbender‘s live-action adaptation will finally be released on Netflix. The streaming giant recently released the official trailer of the show and fans have welcomed it with open arms. The CGI work behind the element-bending and the casting for the series seems to be the highlight.
The show follows the story of Aang, the last Avatar, who emerges from self-imposed exile after he runs away from the Southern Air Temple fearing his responsibilities as an Avatar. He meets Katara and Sokka and travels along with them to fulfill his destiny. His trusted companions also include the flying bison Appa and the monkey Momo.

The trailer was lauded for its fight choreography, its depiction of element-bending, and the near-perfect casting of characters which includes actors Gordon Cormier, Dallas Liu, Kiawentiio, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, and Daniel Dae Kim. The show was also appreciated for its use of the original theme song, composed by Jeremy Zuckerman and Benjamin Wynn.
The trailer also hints at Aang reaching his Avatar State, a state of trance where he can access the powers of all the previous Avatars before him. Aang acts as a bridge between the real world and the spiritual realm and can access the cosmic energies of the spiritual plane when he reaches his full potential.

Production Troubles On The Netflix Series
Netflix has become a trusted brand for adapting popular animated shows into live-action. Though they started terribly with adaptations of classic anime likeDeath NoteandCowboy Beebop, the streaming platform finally seemed to have cracked it withOne Piece. The show was lauded for its faithfulness to the legendary anime and manga.
Now, the streaming giant follows it up with an adaptation of the anime-inspired Nickelodeon showAvatar: The Last Airbender. The show had already received one disastrous live-action remake from M Night Shyamalan, which led fans to be skeptical about the Netflix adaptation. They were even more terrified after the original creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko departed from the series citing creative differences.
The DiMartino wrote about their decision to exit in an open letter on hiswebsite,
“When Bryan and I signed on to the project in 2018, we were hired as executive producers and showrunners…Netflix said that it was committed to honoring our vision for this retelling and to supporting us in creating the series. And we expressed how excited we were for the opportunity to be at the helm. Unfortunately, things did not go as we had hoped.”
However, despite the original showrunners departing the show, the Netflix adaptation has received appreciation from the fans judging by the trailers. Will the show match up to the expectations the trailers have created? It remains to be seen on February 22.
