Nintendo held on July 20 a new Nintendo Direct Mini, and the Japanese version of the Direct in particular had Gust and Koei Tecmo officially announceAtelier Ryza 2on Nintendo Switch.Atelier Ryza 2will be coming on PS4, Switch, and PC via Steam. The game will be launching this Winter in Japan.

Atelier Ryza 2Reveal Trailer:

Judging from Ryza’s narration in the trailer, this sequel takes place 3 years after the first game’s ending. The trailer overall is narrated by the beautiful voice of Yuichi Nakamura, as it’s often the case with Japanese Directs. He explains Ryza received a mysterious demand via letter and ends up going on a new summer adventure to solve the mysteries of ancient ruins.

Ryza can now swim underwater, use aLupin The Thirdlike hook, and ride monsters. Can she blink now though? I haven’t stared at the trailer enough to tell, but they probably fixed that.

The trailer also teases some returning characters. We can spot Klaudia in Ryza’s party.Toridamonois also back as chara designer. Be sure to checkthe rough draft designs and an interview regarding the first game we translated.

The official Gust Twitter account states that more information will be coming on July 30. A video is alreadyon standby, and the reveal will be happening on July 30 midnight JST, which means July 29 for America and Europe.Click here for a time conversion table.Â

Update: An English version of the videois also on standby.

The game is subtitledUshinawareta Denshou to Himitsu no Youseiin Japan, and namedAtelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairyin the west. Which is a pretty nice translation. The gamewas announced in the westshortly after the Direct ended. This follows theleak via ratings a few days ago.

As far as I know this is the first time ever since switching to the trilogy formula that anAteliergame has the same protagonist two times in a row.Ateliergames nowadays work in trilogies so at this point it’s very likely there will be anAtelier Ryza 3where Ryza will be the protagonist for a third time. Unless Gust and Koei Tecmo decide to surprise us again.

Atelier Ryzais the highest selling game of the franchise, topping 420,000 copies shipped worldwide. I explainedmy viewpoint on the matter if you’re interested.
