Nintendo’sLegend of Zeldais one of the most beloved video game franchises of all time. Studio Ghibli, on the other hand, is the creator of some of the most beloved animated films of all time, includingSpirited Away,Princess Mononoke,My Neighbor Totoroand many, many more. But just imagine for a moment if these two Japanese giants crossed paths and somewhere in the middle out cameThe Legend of Zeldatouched by the hand of Studio Ghibli.
Unfortunately, it’s unlikely to happen. The opportunity did arise at one point, although the idea was soon shelved but thanks to artist Matt Vince who has created his own renditions of three promotional posters and a fantastic self-made animated trailer, we can witness what it would be like and the results are pretty incredible. The amazing concept posters for a Ghibli adaptation ofThe Legend of Zeldafeaturing Zelda, Link, and Ganondorf has made my heartache for this to actually happen since, like so many other people, I’m a big fan of Ghibli movies.
In the trailer,Matt Vinceprovides us with a personal tour of Hyrule, that’s made even more appealing withThe Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Timepiano music playing in the background. As the animated video pans around, we can see many familiar locations like the Great Deku Tree, Hyrule Field, the Temple of Time, Kakariko village and plenty more iconic places.
I think ifThe Legend of Zeldawas ever made into an animated series or movie, there’s no-one that could do it better than Studio Ghibli in which Matt has highlighted so vividly in his artistic posters and wonderfully crafted trailer. Even though Miyazaki retired from making feature films in 2014, we can still dream - can’t we?
