Armored Core VI: Fires of RubiconDirector Masaru Yamamuratold IGN in a recent interviewthat Armored Core VI will include aggressive battles and high-speed dynamic action just likeFrom Software’s other titleSekiro: Shadows Die Twice, though it will still contain some fundamental differences unique to its own core concept as a Mecha game.

Armored Core will have a focus on close-quarters combat and breaking the enemy’s posture with relentless attacks, and while the director avoids having it compared to Sekiro’s counter mechanic, he stresses that the intention of the gameplay system is for players to remain offensive throughout. There will be a balance between gun fighting (long-ranged weapons and missiles) and melee action, and players will have the freedom to choose from a variety of weapons and approach battles as they prefer, with the aim of trying boss fights many times and thinking about the optimal winning strategy.

The difference between both is how you’re able to reach this optimal strategy. In Armored Core you can freely change the configuration of your Mecha by re-assembling and crafting individual parts, so the strategy will change greatly on what weapons you bring, and what kind of machine to use. As a result of this assembling aspect, the distance you can fly and speed of movement will end up drastically varied depending on the player and the parts they bring into battle. Your battle starts way back in the Armored Core garage, and winning battles does not simply depend on consecutive boss battle retries and learning enemy patterns.

Armored Core VI will include a versus mode, but the main focus will still be around the single-player story mode. It will also feature a mission-based structure – and notan open world like Elden Ring– and the story won’t be connected to earlier Armored Core titles. There is an aspect of exploration as well, and the world will still retain that dark and gritty flavor from past From Software games, but the studio ultimately wants players to actually feel the weight of their choices in assembling their Mecha parts, and how these choices will be reflected inside missions and during Boss Battles in terms of movement and flying, not just fighting strength.
