Just the other day, wereportedon how an upcoming game from Humanoid Origin, headed by former BioWare developer Casey Hudson, is shutting down due to lack of funding.
Hudson’s project was a new science-fiction IP, though sadly, we didn’t even get to see a reveal for the planned game. The same fate has befallen another former BioWare veteran, as Mac Walters' studio, Worlds Untold, is “pausing operations” as they search for a new funding partner.

NetEase Pulls Support For Worlds Untold
The announcement was made by Walters over on the Untold WorldsLinkedInwhere he said, “we’ve made the very difficult decision to pause operations at Worlds Untold while we search for a new partner to help bring our vision to life. This was not a decision we made lightly—it’s been a deeply personal journey, and we’re all so proud of everything this team has built together.”
While Walters uses the term “pause,” it does seem like a studio closure, as he also adds, “our incredible team members will be exploring new opportunities. If you’re looking for passionate, talented professionals, please reach out - I’d be honored to connect you with some of the best people I’ve ever worked with.”

Mass Effect TV Show In Active Development At Amazon
Amazon’s next big project is a Mass Effect adaptation
Untold Worlds was established in November 2023 and initially backed by China tech giant NetEase. As for Walters, he worked at BioWare for 19 years, starting with Jade Empire, which was followed by work on both Mass Effect 2 & 3 as the Lead Writer, before taking on the helm as Creative Director of the beleaguered RPG,Mass Effect: Andromeda, and then as the Narrative Director at the studio’s live service flop,Anthem. Walters’s last project at BioWare was Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, where he was tasked as the Project Director.

It’s been a rough time for former BioWare developers, as Walters and Hudson’s struggles at starting their studios aren’t the only casualties. The creator of Nightingale, Inflexion Games, which is headed by the former GM of BioWare Aaryn Flynn, recentlywent through a round of layoffs.
We here at DualShockers hope everyone affected at Untold Worlds is able to land on their feet soon.
