Anna Sawai has been killing it recently and fans love it when she appears on the silver screen. It is a little hard to track down actors who have great passion for what they do. While they do exist, there’s none quite like the 32-year-old Japanese actor and singer.

While she has done a lot of acting work over the last decade and a half, Sawai has now caught the attention of many with her roles inMonarch: Legacy of MonstersandShogun. Sawai has also acted in theFast & Furiousfilms as well. However, it seems like her character onMonarchmight have some connection to her in real life.
Anna Sawai learned to empathize with Cate Randa
Anna Sawaiis someone who genuinely felt a deep connection with her character fromMonarch: Legacy of Monsters. Cate Randa is a character who developed trauma from the events that took place in 2014 (in theGodzillamovie) when Godzilla resurfaced and wrecked San Francisco while fighting MUTOs (Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organisms).
While being interviewed byYahoo News, Sawai explained how she would try to empathize with Cate based on her experience with a natural disaster, the 2011 earthquake that shook Japan’s world upside down. She said,

The whole thing about her being traumatized, I’ve never had anything to that extent. But I was in Japan when the 2011 Tohoku earthquake hit and whenever I hear a buzzer, I’m always like, ‘Oh my God is the same thing going to happen.’
She claimed that the fear she had helped relate to Cate’s trauma. However, in the series, the character goes on to uncover the history between Monarch, an organization that monitors giant beasts like MUTOs, and her father, Hiroshi.

After the events that took place in 2014, Hiroshi had gone missing. Assumed dead, Cate and her step-brother, Kentaro, venture off to uncover the truth. They realize that they had a family member, Keiko Randa, still alive in the Hollow Earth.
Well, that’s exactly how Season 1 ofMonarch: Legacy of Monstersended. But the good news is,Monarchis coming back with more.

Monarch: Legacy of Monstersgets the green light for Season 2
Apple TV+ recently signed a multi-series deal with Legendary Entertainment, which also means thatMonarch: Legacy of Monsterswill be getting another season possibly with more new spinoffs based on theGodzillafranchise.
We couldn’t be more excited for viewers to not only have the chance to experience even more thrills in season two but to embark on epic, new journeys in the franchise as we expand Legendary’s Monsterverse(said Morgan Wandell Apply TV+ viaDeadline).

Anna Sawai and another member of the cast ofMonarchalso shared a couple of sneak peeks on their social media accounts, indicating that production is underway.

Sawai also worked on the first season ofShōgunafter wrapping Monarch’s filming. She was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series during the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards.
The Japanese star became the first Asian actor to win an Emmy in that category. However, her next focus will be on bringing Cate Randa’s story back into relevance.
