Back in 2017, Electronic Arts' (EA) sequel to the DICE-developed Star Wars shooter was met with harsh criticism, as it was announced to heavily lean on microtransactions.
It didn’t take long for the gaming community to bite back at this planned move by EA. It got so bad that everything DICE released to promote the game was met with vitriol. Before the game launched, EA wisely dialed back on its monetization and microtransaction plans for the shooter.

In case you aren’t familiar with the game I’m talking about, it’s none other than Star Wars Battlefront 2.
Unfortunately for DICE and EA, even with the monetization overhaul, the damage has been done, and the game was dragged through the mud. Even with amazing visuals and a solid gameplay look, the game didn’t exactly fail, but it also struggled to escape the mudhole EA had previously dragged it into.
Now, eight years later, the game has experienced a massive resurgence — the likes of which we’ve never seen before.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 Establishes New Concurrent Player High Eight Years After Release
Over onSteam Charts, it mentions how Star Wars Battlefront 2, a game released in 2017, has now established a new concurrent player high on PC! Earlier today, the shooter managed to attract over 35,000 players. This isn’t even counting players on consoles, which could very well mean the game has over 50,000 concurrent players cumulatively.
The shooter’s sudden revitalization is attributed to the modder groupKyber, which organized what they called a “Resurgence Day” for May 24.
As of press time, EA or DICE have not acknowledged the game’s sudden popularity. While the chances of EA announcing and developing a new title update to add content is next to none, perhaps there’s a way to implement crossplay? I have no doubt that would be a tall endeavor, but if there is a chance to do this, it would essentially more than double each platform’s player pool,''

Back in 2017,even our review of the shooterwas critical of the overall package. While DICE released multiple title updates to improve the experience, the review didn’t take them into account.
Last month, when wereported on how the game seemingly is coming back to life, we posited the idea that this could lead to EA pushing for Star Wars Battlefront 3. Truth be told, we aren’t even sure if that’s possible legally, since EA’s deal with Disney isn’t exactly public. We do know the video game maker and the House of Mouse still has a deal in place since EA isdeveloping a new Star Wars RTS, and alsothe final chapter in the Star Wars Jedi saga by Respawn.
