Masashi Kishimoto is one of the greatest manga authors and is known for his dedication to character development and suitable backstories. However, there are instances in whichNarutocharacters have been done injustice and the biggest example is Konohamaru.

Being the son of the Third Hokage already gave him a huge advantage and he was also the only known person to diligently follow Naruto since the beginning of the franchise. Yet, he was incredibly nerfed in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations.
Konohamaru’s Progress inBorutoResembles Hayate
Konohamaru had the potentialto become a much better shinobi than he is currently portrayed as inBoruto. He was introduced as a child who fell in love with how cool Naruto was and has been following him ever since. His further buildup by Kishimoto was also great, and the fandom adored him. Being the grandson of the Third Hokage also put him on a high pedestal. However, hispotential was never recognized in the sequel series.
InBoruto, Konohamaru has been reduced to become the equivalent of Hayate. Back when Hayate had appeared in the Chunin Exam Preliminaries, he was shown as a great proctor and earned praise from fans. But despite being a powerful shinobi, his greatness was reduced to shambles by his inappropriate death.

“She was established as a random civilian with no bloodline”: Boruto Undid One of the Greatest Naruto Mysteries About Tsunade That Made Absolutely No Sense
He was killed rather quickly, and he did not even receive a good fight before his death. While his death and last battle in theNarutomanga were simply stated as an afterthought without much explanation, the anime at least showed his battle with Baki.Just like Hayate, Konohamaru is simply a proctor in the Chunin Exams inBoruto, which might foreshadow his fate in the franchise.
Masashi Kishimoto Nerfed Konohamaru inBoruto
Borutodoes not focus on the original cast ofNarutobut rather introduces the next generation of shinobis. As a result, characters from the previous series have been reduced to fit the context so that they don’t overpower the new-gen protagonists.
While Konohamaru was an incredibly strong and promising ninja inNarutoand is already a Jonin inBoruto, he still seems less powerful in terms of Boruto and his peers. The overall power levels inBorutohave been raised due to the introduction of strong opponents and new abilities, which overshadow Konohamau’s skills.

Not Naruto, Boruto Finds His New Teacher in Kashin After Sasuke
InBoruto, Konohamaru has become more of a mentor or supportive character than a fighter who was always relied on. His role as a sensei also limits the opportunities in which he can showcase his powers in battle. Of course, the maximum screen time is also allotted to the protagonists ofBoruto, followed by the old main characters fromNaruto. This has left Konohamaru with little development inBoruto.
NarutoandBorutomanga are available to read on Viz Media, and the anime are currently airing on Crunchyroll.
