FromSoftware’s latest patch forElden Ringhas left players scratching their heads with some of its suggested fixes for performance issues. After the release of theShadow of The ErdtreeDLC, players had issues with FPS drops and stutters in the Land of Shadows.

The first patch since the DLC’s release supposedly includes some tips for better performance. It suggests players use the “Rebuild Database” function, a feature unrelated to gameplay performance. Players are not too happy with this advice, as it seems like instead of fixing the actual problem, they’re just giving fake advice.
Elden Ring’s Latest Patch Gives Players a Weird Tip for Prevailing Performance Issues
Lance McDonald, a streamer, took to X to express his disbelief. He compared thesuggestionto the often-futile advice given by ISPs to delete cookies to improve internet speed.
Lmao Bandai Namco telling PS5 owners to try using the “Rebuild Database” function to improve the game’s framerate. That feature has absolutely no way to affect gameplay performance at all.Like when you call your ISP about slow internet and they tell you to try deleting cookies.pic.twitter.com/oYjVSlMw5T

McDonald clarified that the “Rebuild Database” function merely helps recover missing game icons after a firmware update and has no impact on gameplay performance.
fucking whatthat’s…actually a bonkers thing for them to say. Like how does that help anyone!?

The community response has been largely critical, with many players mocking the suggestion. These issues have been reported ever sincethe release of the DLCso we are due for an actual fix.
Uhm weird…I actually had a problem with ER some months ago when the game performance were absolutely disastrous for no reasons, out the blue. I did what they are suggesting and the framerate returned to normal (which is still not great of course).

One user mentioned experiencing terrible game performance out of the blue, only to find it improved after using the “Rebuild Database” function. However, these instances seem to be outliers, and many in the community view the suggestion as a placebo rather than a genuine fix.

On PC, players are advised to disable any third-party mouse controlling apps and check the ray tracing settings to ensure they are not unintentionally enabled.
