While AI (Artifical Intelligence) might be the “in” thing nowadays in creating content, it also has the side effect of replacing people and their jobs. Activision, one of the biggest video game publishers in the world, has now confirmed they are using AI in creatingCall of Duty.
The Call of Duty: Black Ops 6Steam pagehas recently been updated for an AI-generated content disclosure.

EA & Ubisoft Have One Last Shot To Dethrone Call Of Duty
These major publishers have one last shot at dethroning Activision.
Call of Duty Uses AI Generated Assets
The disclosure reads:
“The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:
Our team uses generative AI tools to help develop some in game assets.”

Activision is disclosing this now, given Steam has issued a new mandate wherein companies need to disclose AI usage. This means that Activision could have been using AI for a few years now, and we wouldn’t know about it, given there was no requirement from Steam until recently.
While not cited as an example. Call of Duty players have long suspected that AI generated the weapon skins, emblems, Calling Cards, and more. Could AI generate other parts of the multiplayer or campaign? Maybe, but Activision isn’t telling exactly what was made by AI.'

Call of Duty Black Ops 6: All Campaign Missions, Ranked
There’s a lot of variety this time around.
The use of AI might not seem like a big deal now, but with more and more publishers pushing for it, how soon until it replaces current game developers? It might even be happening now, given the landscape of the industry.
Will this add to the job layoffs sweeping the video game industry? I suspect it might, and you can be sure this isn’t helping things. We’re just two months in 2025, and I’ve lost count how manystudio closuresandmassive layoffswe’ve reported on the site.

If there’s a game that can affordnotto use AI, it’s Call of Duty. Black Ops 6topped the US sales charts for premium games sold, which the franchise has done year after year.
Are you OK with studios using AI or would you rather gaming companies steer clear of it?
