The latest trailer for Netflix’sAvatar: The Last Airbenderis here and it has shut down all the haters. Ever since the project was announced, fans of the original animated series have been worried that the live-action adaptation would butcher the series. However, just likeOne Piece, this series is also expected to exceed expectations.
The fans absolutely love the trailer, but it all depends on the execution of the plot. The series will likely cover all 20 episodes of the original show’s Book One: Water but may skip some minor events.
Netflix first announced the series back in 2018. However, production was slowed down after the series’ original creators, Michael Dante DiMartino, and Bryan Konietzko left due to creative differences. When Albert Kim joined the project, fans had some concerns but he assured them that a team of die-hard Avatar: The Last Airbender fans have been working on the show.

The project was first announced in 2018 with Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, the creators of the original series, as executive producers and showrunners. However, they left the project due to creative differences in 2020. In August 2021, Albert Kim was officially announced as a writer, executive producer, and showrunner.

Avatar: The Last Airbenderwill not be a 1-to-1 adaptation of the animated series
Surely, the visuals are stunning but the story is what will decide if the show’s good. In December 2023, Kim made an announcement that left some fans doubtful about the show’s story. In an interview withEntertainment Weekly, Kim revealed that the show will not be a 1-to-1 adaptation of the animated series,
“We don’t start the show the way the animated series starts – That was a conscious decision to show people this is not the animated series. We had to sometimes unravel storylines and remix them in a new way to make sense for a serialized drama. So I’m very curious to see what’ll happen in terms of reaction to that.”
Not all the parts of the series will be directly adapted from the animated series as they had to “remix” some storylines. The series, which will consist of 8 episodes, is scheduled to premiere on June 14, 2025, on Netflix. Will it be as good as the animated series? Only time will tell.
