Romance anime, regardless of whether it is in the movie format or as a proper anime, is always loved by fans. FromA Silent VoicetoThe Apothecary Diaries, there is an unlimited array of content available. Something for everyone, especially when it comes to the genre. It is not just limited to Shoujo but at times even Shonen. This gets fans of every preference hooked onto something or the other.

Out of all the most memorable ones, some stand on a pedestal.Your Lie in April, I Want to Eat Your Pancreas, Sasaki and Miyano, the list is endless and the praise is even more expanded. However, it is not unnatural to see fans pit one against the other, especially in two cases; if they are blanketed in flaws or if they are extremely hyped.
A Silent Voice vs Your Name
The immense fame thatYour Namegathered allowed it to become one of the best romance anime movies out there. Usually, when works deal with heavy themes, they also manage to captivate the audience in distinctive ways. BothYour NameandA Silent Voicedealt with different albeit hard-hitting themes that stand too realistic in the real world.
On an overall spectrum, because of its popularity, many would choose Makoto Shinkai’s work over the other in a heartbeat. From an outside perspective, it would be understandable. The movie is visually stunning and the story is one that would deeply touch one’s heart.

A Silent Voice May Not Deserve to be so Glorified by Anime Fans
The music is also one that could have anyone lost in its serenity. The plot has the ability to connect with fans because of how deep it truly goes and how emotional it is. However, that isn’t enough to consider it better thanA Silent Voice.
The Mark A Silent Voice Left Behind
There is a lot of criticism when it comes toA Silent Voice. Some would call it lackluster while others wouldn’t find it to be as appealing. It too deals with real-life struggles ranging from bullying and mental health to life as a disabled person. At the same time, there are many factors that make the overall plot completely drown, especially with Shoya Ishida’s treatment of Shouko Nishimiya.
Despite its flaws, something about the story remains to be noted, it is and has been memorable. As compared toYour Name, people would be more aware of Naoko Yamada’s movie. Whether it is because of its flaws or because of the plot, it left a bigger impact. Visually, Makoto Shinkai’s film would be leaps and bounds ahead.

“It’s a lot more than just a girl with a disability”: Fans Defend A Silent Voice as $31 Million Movie Faces Backlash for Poor Representation
From another angle, it would make sense thatA Silent Voicesimply has a more memorable plot. Its complexity gives it the feeling of an onion with every layer revealing something new. That is not to say that either of them is bad. It is simply that one does storytelling better than the other. More importantly, it is about which is more impactful, and for most fans, Yamada’s film is simply the way to go.
A Silent VoiceandYour Nameare available to watch on Crunchyroll.
