Robert Downey Jr. being cast as Doctor Doom might have gotten fans interested in the MCU again, but this has led to an issue that might not sit well with fans of the Latvarian Monarch. Given the high-profile actor that RDJ has become, one of the key aspects of Doom might be compromised as a result.

Robert Downey Jr. is set to play Doom

Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU might be a tell-tale sign of a waning franchise, and then there is also the fact that Doom is depicted in the comics as Romani, which Robert Downey Jr. is not. However, a bigger issue is that Doom, known for his iconic armor, might have to set his helmet aside, given that Robert Downey Jr. might not be so keen on having his face hidden completely.

Doctor Doom’s armor might not have the same mechanics as Iron Man’s

When Robert Downey Jr. dawned the Iron Man suit, while the character was mostly behind a mask, there were close-up shots of his face inside the armor that allowed his face to be on screen without removing his faceplate. This might not be something that is completely compatible with Doctor Doom, whose faceplate will stay on and not have the luxury of close-up shots inside the armor. Fans on Reddit have pointed this out, with one particular user saying:

Robert Downey Jr.has been the face of the MCU since its inception. Bringing him back already merits using his face to get people in theatres. However, Doctor Doom is a character that famously does not reveal his face, which is not something that could work with fans. Maybe, there can be poignant scenes in his lonesome, as was the case with Thanos, where he could reveal his face, otherwise, and then put it back on when he is dealing with business.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe could just recast Kang instead of pivoting the story altogether

There was an entire consensus that the investment in Kang the Conqueror was low, thanks to an underwhelming performance delivered by Jonathan Majors. However, once Majors lost his suit in a court of law, Marvel was quick to drop him. There were speculations as to who could have been the MCU’s next big bad as Kang, only for the studio to completely scrap Kang and start fresh, probably with Doctor Doom.

“Somehow they found an Israeli IDF actress”: Captain America 4 Isn’t Doing Any Favors to MCU After They Cast Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom

Giving Kang a more charismatic character while fleshing out his story might have cost Marvel Studios a lot less, as it could have also dealt with the fact that Doctor Doom might have stayed the main antagonist of the Fantastic Four side of things. However, it remains to be seen if Kang going to appear in future MCU projects or not, if they ever consider bringing him back.
