HBO has finally given fans the first trailer ofThe Last of Usseason 2. The acclaimed TV show returns to adapt the second game with familiar faces like Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey while new cast members like Jeffrey Wright and Isabela Merced have been added. The tone is ominous and seems to go deeper and darker into the post-apocalyptic world.

Expectations for the second season seem to be high, especially considering the introduction of Kaitlyn Dever’s Abby Anderson, who has a huge role to play in the series. Many elements from the second game are seen in the trailer, while new characters like Catherine O’Hara’s therapist add more to the story. Here are three details from the trailer ofThe Last of Us 2.

1Pearl Jam’s Future Days

One of the sweetest and most emotional moments ofThe Last of Us: Part IIis the moment whenJoel plays the guitar to Ellie. The duo settles down in Jackson after the first game and brings out the ‘gee-tar’ to show Ellie what it is. The first song he plays isFuture Daysby Pearl Jam, where he talks about losing himself if he loses Ellie.

The trailer ofThe Last of Usseason 2 is scored by a version of the same song, hinting at the show’s own future days where things are about to get deeper and darker. Music has always been a core part ofThe Last of Us, with Fleetwood Mac’sI’m Coming Home to Stayhaving beautiful meaning to Bill and Frank’s life.

2Seraphites

Apart from Kaitlyn Dever’s Abby, Joel and Ellie have to deal with multiple other antagonists in the show’s second season. Season 1 established many groups in the cordyceps-infested world like FEDRA and the Fireflies. More groups are introduced in the second season, one of them being the Seraphites.

Called Scars by non-members of the group, the cult-ish society is at war with another group called the Washington Liberation Front for the control of Seattle. The Scars have a religious philosophy about the apocalypse being the result of the sins of humanity and believe in an egalitarian society, living off the land and being reliant on technology.

The symbol of the Seraphites is shown in the trailer, with the symbol written in blood on a wall and the words ‘Feel Her Love’ also written. The ‘Her’ here refers to the Seraphite Prophet, who began the cult.

3Washington Liberation Front

Another group is established inThe Last of Us: Part IIand is one of the primary antagonists of the second season. The Washington Liberation Front a.k.a WLF is led by a man named Isaac. The group was instrumental in overthrowing FEDRA in Seattle and is constantly at odds with the Seraphites for control over Seattle.

Jeffrey Wright reprises his role as Isaac from the game, making him the second actor to do so after Merle Dandridge’s Merlene. The actor is seen torturing a Scar in the trailer and might be one of the most formidable foes for Ellie and Joel. Abby Anderson, the primary antagonist, was also a part of the WLF.

The Last of Usis available to stream on Max.
